Chelsea midfielder, Jorginho has admitted he does not share a key attribute with past Ballon d’Or winners like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Jorginho said this while making a case to be awarded the 2021 Ballon d’Or on Monday night.
The 29-year-old believes he deserves the Ballon d’ Or this year, having won the Champions League with Chelsea and the Euro 2020 with Italy national team.
Jorginho has been nominated for the 2021 Ballon d’Or alongside the likes of PSG superstar Messi and Manchester United’s Ronaldo, Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski, among others.
“I do consider myself a [Ballon d’ Or] candidate. Because of the achievements and performances last season,” Jorginho told Placar.
“I was champion of the two main tournaments in Europe, something that few athletes have achieved.
“Of course, I have characteristics that are totally different from Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, Mbappé, among others.
“I don’t have their number of goals and assists and I wouldn’t have, given my position on the field.
“But I am convinced of what I have done and I am sure I have good credentials to run for the Golden Ball.”
