Title-chasing Hotspurs in make or mar fight against West Brom

Sunday, November 08, 2020

Title-chasing Tottenham Hotspurs travel to the Midlands, to take on relegation-threatened West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns.

Jose Mourinho’s men start the weekend in the top four, and the Portuguese boss will be hoping to strengthen their position in the league with a victory over the struggling Baggies, who are still yet to win in the new Premier League campaign.

Spurs scraped past Burnley and Brighton in their last two outings, and their supporters will be expecting a rather more comfortable afternoon against Slaven Bilic’s men on Sunday. However, West Brom are hurting following their disappointing 2-0 defeat to Fulham last weekend, and they will be targeting that elusive first win at the eighth attempt.

The pressure is on both teams and both managers to pick up a result in this fixture, and the duo will see this as an opportunity to move up the table prior to the international break. So, without further ado, let’s have a look at what state the two sides are in heading into this big clash.

West Brom have very few injuries or suspension issues ahead of the battle against Tottenham Hotspurs, although Hal Robson-Kanu won’t feature due to an elbow problem, and Sam Field is also out. Bilic will have plenty to think about after last week’s poor display against Fulham, and may look to make some changes to his starting lineup.

Forward Callum Robinson will be pushing for a start, while Grady Diangana must be looking over his shoulder in that wide-left position. Karlan Grant should keep his place in the side, as he adapts to life in the Premier League with the Baggies.

Mourinho will be pleased with the number of players at his disposal for Sunday, following another busy midweek of Europa League action. Sergio Reguilon is a doubt through illness, but he is expected to start from the off in this crucial clash.

The Premier League’s in-form partnership Harry Kane and Heung-min Son will fancy their chances to link up once again on Sunday afternoon, while superstar Gareth Bale may have to settle for a place on the bench once again, as he builds back up to full fitness.

West Brom will know how important it is to get their first win of the season, and with each passing game, the pressure only continues to build. However, it’s unlikely to come against a Spurs side keen to continue their positive progression under Mourinho at the start of this new season.
